Our Most Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few of the more commonly asked questions when children and parents consider joining Little Athletics for the first time.

It is by no means a definitive guide, but enough to give you an idea on what to expect. More details can be gained from our experienced committee members, coaches and the little green handbook handed out at registration time. Don’t forget you can always contact us.

We will hold three registration days prior to the start of the season, one day on each of the last three weekends in August. This allows us to have the bulk of athletes to be registered before the first Friday night, which in turn gives us the opportunity to get the athletes onto the track and participating straight away. You can also register on any Friday night competition during the season.

I suppose like any child they don’t know until they try it, often parents are unsure as well. So as a result we allow children to ‘trial’ over a couple of weeks they can then make the decision and you can register etc after that. More information on this can be obtained from the registrar and or the championships officer at registrations or on Friday night.

As mentioned previously the season runs from the second Friday night in September through to mid March the following year, with a small break for Christmas

It’s all about the child going out and having a go, enjoy themselves, and keeping fit. If they do not want to do an event then they don’t have to, however they are always encouraged to try and achieve their personal best

This is really dependant on their age. Tiny tots normally participate in games and exercises to improve their motor skills leading up to the older age groups participating in maximum events including throwing a javelin. Some of the events are introduced at an appropriate age group that is commensurate with the child’s development and growth.
